Today at work we had a special workshop based on the book,"Now, Discover Your Strengths". It was lead by one of the staff at Rock Harbor, David Chow. It was a productive 3 hours. Christina Walker, our Belong and Grow Pastor, organized it. She gave us all the book a month ago and we had to go to the website to take a quiz about ourself. We then had to email our top five to her and read up on them and highlight what statements resonated with us. My top five were: Empathy, Individualization, Focus, Competition, and Activator. There are 34 traits that are possible. So it would be highly unlikely to be exactly like someone else. I had a couple of the same traits as a few of the other participants today. After reading more about each strength they really did sum up a lot of my personality and how I deal with life in general. I titled this, "My Strengths?" because some of my traits are not always a positive. I'll give you a couple of examples. Empathy was my highest. I sense the emotions of those around me. It of course has a much longer description but I am pretty intuitive to the feelings of other, this can cause a lot of stress because I am also a people pleaser. Second was Individualization, I am intrigued with the unique qualities of each person. This is usually a positive. Third was Focus, I can take a direction, follow through, and make the corrections necessary to stay on track. I prioritize, then act. Fourth, Competition, which is probably not a surprise to people. These individuals measure their progress against the performance of others. I strive to win first place and revel in contests. This trait is pretty exhausting. I love a good competition and always want to be the best. Lastly, Activator, I can make things happen by turning thoughts into action. I am often impatient. Well surprise, surprise...ask anyone around me I am not a patient person. But I do make things happen. All of these traits have their positives and negatives. I did learn today that these are my talents and I need to turn them into my strengths by working on them and focusing on the positive aspects. It was fun to learn what makes the people you work with tick. My table laughed a lot because so much of today was a reminder of who we are and why we do the things we do. I am glad I work at a place where it is important to see how we can better ourselves and how we can work better together. I really do appreciate all the personalities that work and volunteer at Revolution. It is a testament to why we are such a great church!
